Award Presentation
The winners of the 2010 South East Regional Media Awards will be announced at a special award cocktail event at Visual Arts Centre, La Trobe University, 121 View Street, Bendigo, Victoria on Saturday, 17 April 2010.
There will be a special presentation from 2009 Walkley Award Winners in All Media ,Community and Regional Affairs ,Louise Fitzroy and Simon Rogers from ABC Kinglake Ranges 94.5 FM.
Borrowing a 15-metre
cherrypicker to raise the ABC radio transmitter above the mountains to reach
the Kinglake community, a new radio station was born out of the Black Saturday
tragedy. Transmission was one of many challenges that presenters Louise Fitzroy
and Simon Rogers overcame to give the devastated community its voice back.
Prior to the inception of 94.5 ABC Kinglake
Ranges on March 13, 2009, Rogers broadcast fire updates overnight across
Victoria’s ABC network. Fitzroy, an ABC journalist from Western Australia, was
in town to teach yoga until called on to help her Victorian colleagues cope
with the 24-hour fire coverage.
